It is safe to say that after 3 years of solid water time the Blairacuda™ Shape is here to stay. We couldn't be more stoked on all the love shown to this shape from our top team riders, and loyal customers alike. This shape has become one of our most popular and sought after skimboards, and we couldn't be happier about it!!
In an effort to bring this shape to an even larger rider base, Exile is please to now offer the Blairacuda™ in our EX1 E-Glass Epoxy Construction.
A brief history...After giving our new RetroFish™ shape a solid go, Blair Conklin wanted to make some modifications he felt would make the board a little more high performance and better suited to his riding style. So he sat down with us and we created the Blairacuda... A board that's narrower than the Retrofish through the nose and middle section of the board for better maneuverability, and features a less drastic swallow tail that Blair says, 'Works almost like a fin". While the board performs well in straight waves and when doing front side turns, he believes a majority of the added benefit from the fish shape is felt when riding backside on either 1ft liners or 6ft wedges. One of the most difficult things to do on any finless board is to hold a line when you are going fast on your heel edge. He's a strong believer that this shape will help you with doing exactly that, while being extremely rippable and versatile for many different conditions. Not to mention this thing side slips like a bat out of hell.
The EX1 is the most high performance skimboard available at it's price on the market. It comes with extra reinforcement built in to sustain the toughest conditions. This board is the perfect step up for riders looking to start riding waves and progressing in the sport. Blairacudas™ created with EX1 construction are available in 4 sizes. If you want more shape, size, and thickness options, you should choose to bump up to one of our higher end construction options.
Key Features of the EX1:
3/4" Tapered to 5/8" thickness means that the center of the core is 3/4" thick and thins out to 5/8" (roughly) in the nose and tail. This creates added buoyancy while keeping the board maneuverable, just not quite as responsive as the 5/8". This thickness is typically more ideal for slight below average to slightly above average wave height and strength.
The Hybrid Rocker is what we put on 90% of the boards we produce, and is the most versatile skimboard rocker for skimming anything from the Gulf Coast of Florida to Cabo. It clocks in roughly at 2.25" in the nose and about .125" in the tail with a fairly good size flat spot in the middle of the board. This allows the board to transition from sand to water easily, be super fast, and turn on a dime. If you aren't sure, this would be our pick!
Showroom Finish. Slightly heavier and less durable than the other finish options. Requires no prep work for traction application.
